Davis Family Fall Pics 2012

I had the pleasure of taking my friend Katie's family pictures yesterday at White Rock Lake in Dallas - it was so fun to spend time with her and try to capture her sweet family!  William is 3 months older than Reagan so I always enjoy time with him to see what my near future will bring.  :-)  He is growing so fast and getting more handsome every day!  Blake did a great job scouting the location for me, that will be a spot to revisit for sure.  They even brought their big girl Haven along, which I loved!  Here are a few of my favorites from our time together.

Everyone smiling and looking good!  Beautiful family!!

No more pictures.

So sweet!  He had the best time running on the rock ledges.

Hanging out in the secret stairwell we found :-)

 A boy and his dog

 Best friends!!

My favorite - so much mischief and sweetness all rolled into one!

And, my favorite "outtake" - this just totally sums up any attempt to take pictures when kids and dogs are involved!

Thank you, Katie, for giving me the chance to capture your family as it grows!

Happy Meow-loween...

So, this is very late, being that Thanksgiving is this week, but I just wanted to do a little picture post of my Halloween kitty cat.  She did some fun pumpkin carving (mostly just pumpkin mess-making, followed by the adults carving and her going to bed) and then we had a little photo shoot in her simple black cat costume.  Since one of her favorite words is "Meow", I thought it was appropriate.

Digging in!
Look at my mouse, Uncle Brad!

Jude's Nautical Nursery

Well, my sister Tara is about 23 days away from her 3rd baby boy, and as is my custom, I went hog wild creating a nautical themed space for my new baby nephew!  Every creative person should have a friend or family member that is willing to do EVERYTHING you say and let you do ANYTHING you want in a room...it is the best.  I also have the added bonus of a brother in law who is able to execute my wishes perfectly (see waves around the room...hello!) in this Arkansas room while I sit on my crafty throne from Dallas and dictate what has to happen! :-)  I always have complete carte blanche to do what I want for her and her house...the upside for me is that I get my way and make whatever I want however I want it, the upside for her is that almost everything in her house decorative-wise was designed or made by me and she didn't have to pay for it.  :-)  So...come on in!

The bookshelves and "window seat" are from Ikea, I made the cushion for the bench.  Yes, we know the recliner doesn't exactly "go".  However, now that I have had a baby and used a very cute vintage rocker with custom back and seat pads in my nursery, I say COMFORT IS KEY!!  I didn't rock my baby longer than 5 minutes in that thing, it was so uncomfortable.  So.  Giant brown leather recliner it is.  Throw pillows for the seat and chair are forthcoming...whenever I get time to make them.  :-)

So many things I love about this!  One thing I hate; the wrinkled bedskirt.  This is classic Tara.  Just grab that baby out of the box and throw it on there.  The linens are from Pottery Barn.  I'm sure they'd cringe at the state of them. :-)  (Sorry, Tara!  You gotta own it though.)  On to my favorite thing; the mobile!  I texted Tara mid-make and told her it was the cutest thing I've ever made.  I really love it.  Felt is so fun.  The artwork on the wall was Alex's contribution - he is a budding artist at the ripe old age of 5 and we are in love with his "Row Row Row" painting!  The waves he made from the cardboard template I did for his dad to use to paint the FAB waves around the room.  Love.  And what crib is complete without a bunting across the front?  Certainly none of mine.

Love love love.  I am actually a little perturbed that we did Nautical in Jude's room...what if I have a boy?  Oh well, I'm probably bound to a Star Wars theme if I do produce a male child.  My husband will insist.  Stay tuned to see if THAT nursery turns out cute.  :-)

Our art wall - the fabulous giant anchor is from Hobby Lobby and is totally perfect.  The "don't shoot" Lobster was 2-year-old Eli's artistic contribution (i.e. his mother held him down and painted his hands and feet while he screamed and was placated only with the promise of Sweetarts).  The nail art was another fun project I did...I am really loving the nail thing, it is super easy and fun to do.  Definitely see more of those in my future.

Shelf and curtain detail - the curtain tiebacks are a decorative block and tackle I found for super cheap (like $3 each), along with the sailboat sheer (which you can only see the bottom of because of the light in the window - also $3) from the wonderful Christmas Tree Shops store.  No, it's not just christmas trees.  In fact there are none, but it's summer so why would there be.  But it is my new favorite place.  Just saying.

Nautical Flag Alphabet blocks - these are just balsa wood blocks from Joann spray painted white, then Mod Podged with pieces of paper to replicate the nautical alphabet.  The only ones that have letters on them spell Jude, the rest he will have to figure out when he gets bigger and can match them up!

Close up of the stroller blanket (draped on the back of the recliner) - the back is patchwork with felt anchors.  Turned out to be my favorite blanket I've made so far...I've got to quit doing my best stuff for other people!  Sorry, Reagan, that your blanket isn't as cute as your cousin's.  :-)

So, that's pretty much it...there are no pics of the changing table wall because it's not really done...still looking for a round mirror...which will then be modified to my liking...:-)  23 days until he gets here (c-section in case you thought I had the power of prophecy)...hope you like your room, baby boy!  Aunt Lisa loves you!!

My Texas Bluebonnet

*Note - this is my first blog post ever...this is really just a test!  Bear with me as I figure this out...I'm only 33 but I feel about 83 when it comes to tech-y stuff.

One of my favorite things about Texas is the way the roadsides and fields look like they were painted blue every March/April when the Bluebonnets bloom.  They make even the shoulder on 635 look pretty, and that's not an easy task!  Bluebonnets were one of my Grandmother's favorite things and they always make me think of her.  Finally this year, I had a photo subject worthy of being posed in the sea of blue...so I dressed her to match and we met Uncle Brad in Plano for a little shoot.  The outing did interfere with her bedtime, but it was worth it.

*for some reason, this picture is looking really green.  First thing to figure out.

We had a great time getting Reagan to look at us, smile, make faces...she is always a good sport with a camera in her face.  I guess she doesn't know any different since there has been one there since she was born.  I should just put a picture of myself on the front of my camera since she sees it just as much as she sees me, ha!

I have a hard time leaving my favorite spot behind the camera and getting in front of it.  I've seen a lot of "momtographer" blogs and their various posts/challenges about taking more pictures with your kids...it's true that it is so easy to just stay out of the pics, but I'm sure one day Reagan won't care if my hair looked bad that day, or if I wished I weighed 50 pounds less (while I'm wishing, why not 50, right?)...she'll just be glad there are pictures of us together.  So I allowed Uncle Brad to persuade me to get in the shot with her...and I'm glad I did.  I like this one of me and my little doll baby.

So, Grandmother, we were thinking of you that day out in the Bluebonnet field - I'll make sure Reagan knows they're your favorite and we'll always remember you when we take pictures among them every year!
